England squad announcement: West Ham star Declan Rice set for senior call-up after rejecting Republic of Ireland
Burnley keeper Tom Heaton is also in line to be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad to face the Czech Republic and Montenegro
Declan Rice is in line for a call up to the England senior squad, according to reports.
The West Ham United midfielder has enjoyed a stellar season at the base of Manuel Pellegrini’s midfield and Gareth Southgate is set to reward him for his sterling efforts.
Rice is expected to be named in the Three Lions’ squad on Wednesday for games against the Czech Republic and Montenegro later this month.
Last month, the 20-year-old switched his international allegiance from the Republic of Ireland – despite making three senior appearances in friendlies.
According to Sky Sports however, the London-born star will be selected by Southgate immediately after receiving FIFA clearance.
It is also claimed Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton is set for an England recall after being on Southgate’s standby list for the World Cup in Russia.
The 32-year-old was recovering from a shoulder injury, but hasn’t featured for his country in nearly two years.
Everton star Jordan Pickford will retain his place between the sticks for his country, despite his shaky form this season for the Toffees.
England face the Czech Republic at home on March 22 before an away trip to Montenegro three days later as they begin their campaign to qualify for Euro 2020, with the semi-finals and final at Wembley.
