Gunnar Nelson suffers gruesome eye injury at UFC London as Leon Edwards lands wicked elbow during welterweight war
The ice-cold grappler was left looking like ‘the Elephant Man’ according to fans and he admitted to not knowing what shot hurt him
Gunnar Nelson suffered a potential broken orbital bone at UFC London after a brutal elbow by Leon Edwards.
The welterweight clash, which was the co-main event at the 02 Arena, allowed Edwards to showcase his aggressive grappling skills against the skilled Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist.
However, it was a short, sharp and sickening elbow at the end of the second round which had fans talking after his hand was raised in the octagon.
As Nelson launched in to try to haul the Birmingham-native to the ground, Edwards stood firm and smashed his forearm into the temple of the UFC veteran.
Stunned and confused, Nelson managed to somehow survive the vicious ground and pound which followed, but it came at a cost.
As the Icelandic warrior struggled back to his corner, he could be overheard asking what shot he had been hit with.
It was a night filled with brutality in the nation’s capital as Molly McCann was taken to hospital for surgery after her win against Priscila Cachoeira.
And in the final fight of the night, Darren Till was sparked out cold by a brutal left-hook from Jorge Masvidal to silence the partisan crowd.
As he went back to celebrate his emphatic victory, Masvidal them became embroiled in an ugly scrap with Edwards backstage. However, it was Edwards’ crunching shot which fans will remember.
