Nexus 5 vs Nexus 4 | Pocketnow

There was no way I was ever gonna buy a Nexus 4.

Sure, the price tag was appealing. Yes, the construction was sleek and I found the disco paint job fun. And the prospect of succeeding my old’n’busted Galaxy Nexus LTE with a more modern, non-hobbled replacement was definitely tempting. But the lack of proper 4G, the godawful camera, and the fragile industrial design all conspired to place the Nexus 4 firmly on my “wait for something better to come along” list.

Well, something better just came along. And it’s called (of course) the Nexus 5.

We’ve seen how the Nexus 5 fares against Motorola’s more-innovative Moto X. We’ve seen how well it holds up under the withering assault of the better-built HTC One. Now it’s time to compare it, side by side, with its immediate predecessor. The ‘5 solves almost every problem I had with the ‘4, and it comes in at a similarly low price point – but is that enough for us to recommend ditching the older model for this sleek new offering from LG?

Spoiler: oh, yes. In the words of 2006-era Posh Spice, this thing is totally major.

  1. wow. u broke the phone and it is manufacturer's fault??
i have nexus 4, more the 2 years old, and absolutely scratch free. all i have is a 5$ clear plastic cover (the one that comes off very easily) and i have been very abusive to my phone. i have dropped it so many times. it is mostly sliding around in my work truck or in my lunch box.
Still getting updates every few days.

  2. speakers and sound recorder on the Nexus 5 are pathetic if Google fixed them the Nexus 5 would be the perfecte phone ever made with its perfect price !!
    I Loooove my Nexus 5 😀

  3. I owned the Nexus 4 and I utterly loved that phone, it did all I wanted it to – add to the fact its excellent price and top of the line specs and I was instantly sold! Sadly, mine got broken.

But I loved the Nexus experience so much I went ahead and brought the Nexus 5 to replace it! It really is the upgraded version but I think it still has enough of a comparable experience to the 4 that I felt at home with the transition – like moving into a new home, but having your family and friends there to greet you.

I love both and would recommend either!

  4. I own a nexus 5. Got to deal with two replacements. Currently using my third N5 and still surfacing the same annoying problem – there's a brighter and warmer stripe on the bottom side of the screen, visible when in full screen or landscape mode (action bar normally hides it).
What would you do if in my case? Ask Google for one more replacement or ignore this "unusual feature"?

  5. I prefer the Nexus 4 instead of the Nexus 5 because from a hardware point of view they're not that much different and I think it's not worth the upgrade. Plus the 4 has a better design and the back of the phone is better looking and it's glass not plastic. From a software point of view they're both the same, the Nexus 4 also has Android 4.4 KitKat and thus I decided not to upgrade to the Nexus 5 but instead to wait for the Nexus 6, or whatever version comes next after the 5.

  6. I found a 16gb N4 in mint condition with all the original packing- paid 160.  Too hard to pass this deal up.   Love the N5 – but not enough to pay an extra 2 bills for it.

  7. I've had this phone for about 2 months now, and it's still amazing, the only thing minute thing I don't like, Is the battery life it could have improved, the placing of the speakers could have been better but that doesn't bug me since I used my head phones must if the time, this phone is amazing and I highly recommend it for people switching to android, also don't like this guy's review
